Off we headed with some degree of knowing where we were going. We stop often to be sure. After a couple of false starts we were on our way.
Mostly we biked on country roads. And the roads were excellent, little traffic and lots to see. Chateaus, farms, chickens, cows, donkeys, horses, pigs, and country smells. Here is the first chateau we saw.
Another chateau that even had a moat. You can see bullet marks in the wall.
Fields of yellow canola.
How can you resist a photo?
Some of the sights were like stepping back in time. Churches 100’s of years old and in need of repair. We saw churches in almost every little village.
The graveyards were well maintained.
Here is a dove cote, doves flew away as I approached.
Love some of the old farm buildings.
Going through Sully I snuck a picture of two women coming down the road, dressed in red and blue, very French.
As we got closer to Omaha Beach you could see pictures and information about the war.
The before and after.
Here is Omaha Beach and looking down from above.
Omaha Beach is a beautiful spot amd such a historical place. We walked up to the American cemetery which is spectacular if you can call a cemetery spectacular, and so well maintained. Very moving to be there, it brings you to tears.
Over 9,000 soldiers are buried here.
This is showing the military operations and the direction they moved.
Some bunkers are still visible as we make our way back to the beach.
Time to head back to Bayeux.
With all the biking we stopped at Port en Bessin for a beer, well deserved.
After more than 50 km and about 7 hours we made it back to Bayeux to our hotel room.
Tonight burgundy and grey!
So much better to see photos as you wander your way (as compared to 500 photos after a trip). Thanks so much for sharing!
