And boiled eggs right before your eyes to your liking.
I managed to make our lunch of two ham and cheese sandwiches, chunk of cheese and an orange. Thank you Hotel Paris.
Getting out of town was easier today and the biking amazing. Almost all of the 42 kms were along the coast.
Juno beach goes on and on. With the tide out you could see forever.
Who knew we would find a dog show on the way.
Beautiful big dogs.
More coastal rides. People come here for the summer and until then the houses are closed up. It isn’t quite summer here yet.
Norm thinking he could afford one of these.
The town Bernieres sur mer was probably one of most emotional stops yet. Here still stands the house that the Canadian saw and liberated on June 6, 1944.
The house is called Canada House and the plaque explains.
Norm’s artist photograph.
That’s me in there! So is this.
There are WWII items, memorials and monuments all along the way. Here is a German gun bunker.
In and on the water we saw boats, stand up paddle boards, divers, fishers, horse back riders, sail boats, and walkers everywhere.
Next stop, Pegasus bridge. The British captured the bridge at midnight June 5. Five gliders landed close to the bridge and surprised the Germans, taking it in 10 minutes. Today a new bascule bridge has replaced the original but Norm found the old one on display and got a photo. We had tea/coffee at the Pegasus Bridge Cafe.
The old Pegasus bridge
We arrived in Caen by 3 and had time to explore the Château de Caen. It was built in 1060 by William the Conqueror. It covers 5.5 hectares and we saw a small part of it. Today the grounds are open to walk about and the museum of Fine Arts of Caen is there plus a museum of Normandy. We enjoyed the warm sunny walk about.
Norm and the ramparts.
Yellow Bunny on the castle edge with a cathedral behind. We learned there are 25 churches in Caen plus a couple of synagogues and a mosque!
Some of the art work as you walk about.
And we finished our walk with his and her beer.
