3 Buses to Bayeux

Our day started at 12:00 might, Wednesday. Well actually we were at the train station at 9 pm waiting for our midnight connection. But first we have to tell you about Musa, who worked the Tourist Information. We wanted to find out when the station closed since were would be handing around till midnight. Well Musa not only helped with information but as soon as he realized we were Canadian, we became great friends. His first question was if we had any loonies and toonies. His son is collecting them. We spent the next half hour chatting, while he graciously charged my phone.

Turns out Musa collects ties from train stations. He has over 200. We had great laughs. We promised that if he sent us an email we would send him the coins of the years he is looking for. He was so happy that he brought us coffee. (Norm got 2)
Now the adventure. We seem to have a problem with train strikes. Due to the French trains going on strike two days every week, we had to find a different way to get from Rotterdam to Bayeux. I couldn’t change the tickets until the day we were to leave. That didn’t work because we would be late for our bike trip. So we went midnight from Rotterdam to Charles de Gaulle airport, arriving at 7am. Full bus and little sleep. Watching the custom officers search the bus on our arrival with a drug sniffing dog then taking off 3 people kind of added interest.

There were at least 8 officers and if you look you can see the one arrested (non Caucasian) just below the stop sign. Seemed like a lot of guys with guns???
Next wait 4+hours for a bus to Caen. Lunch on board

Then once in Caen wait another 2 hours for a bus to Bayeux. Norm said here we are waiting at an airport for a bus because there are no trains! Crazy eh!
Finally in our hotel in Bayeux. I think we were lucky and got the pink room.
