Off to watch the military parade but first we enjoyed the market items. Strawberry cream scones and salted caramel ice cream. The best ice cream!
The crowds staring arriving and there was lots to see.
The marching military people.
The Castle Cornet was free today so escaping the people off we went. Very interesting exhibits and wonderful view of St. Peter Port.
The castle has protected Guernsey for 800 years. The earliest parts date to the 13th century. It has gone back and forth between the British and the French. During the Second World War the Germans added more defences to the castle. In 1947 it was gifted to Guernsey. Today it as great place to learn about its past and enjoy a walk about. Fireworks will be set from the castle tonight.
The view
Norm taking charge of photos. Prince Albert in a prominent position.
British bulldogs
Even Winston Churchill and his wife, Clementine were here today.
We decided to go for a walk to see the Little Chapel. After over an hour walking and getting thirsty we came to a pub, The Last Post! Rock band in the front and bluegrass in the back. What a great little neighbourhood and a place for our “lunch”.
Can you tell which band is which?
We were now ready to keep walking and what a delight to see this unusual chapel.
The Little Chapel was a work of art and labour by Brother Deodar in 1914. Criticized that it was too small Brother Deodar demolishes it and built another.
And then once more. The third Chapel from 1939 is what is here today. In 2015 was is such need of repair it had to closed. Today fund raising keeps the Chapel going. It is truly a remarkable site. Most of the china pieces you see are Wedgewood.
The ceiling
Other walls
Norm barely fits in.
Not wanting to walk back we waited for a bus. On the way we had to wait for the cows to pass heading for milking.
Back in town we caught the old car display. Classy!
Even a Riley
Off to catch the fire works tonight
