Predjama Castle to Hudičevec

Goodbye Ljubljana. What a beautiful city! One of the most romantic and beautiful walkable cities we’ve been too! Too bad we were only there for a day and a dinner..
Great start to our day with our ordered breakfast and I managed to take two croissants for later.
And Norm had granola

Our contact person in Slovenia, Miha, picked us up at 9:45 am and drove us quite a ways out of town to start our walk from Predjama Castle. (The name means simply, before the cave.)

You can see the castle behind us. It is a castle tightly tucked into a cavernous hole in a vertical rock face!

It has been seen in various movies. This time on our walk we are following “markacije”, red dots to keep us from getting lost.

Even more interesting is that we are actually walking the Camino trail as well! Look for yellow scallops, the Camino sign for this old pilgrimage route that crosses Europe to Spain.
Beautiful bucolic scenes, almost like parks

Even Yellow Bunny enjoyed the outdoors

Some woods
And some cows that decided to follow us, fortunately they were fenced.

Lots of mountains and valleys

We stopped for lunch by a 1776 church at a small hillside village.

More valleys and so glad the weather was perfect, not too hot and not raining!

Religion plays a big role in this part of Europe. There are many cathedrals, churches, statues, shrines everywhere

This one is from 1843

Here we are at Tourist Farm Hudičevec.

Really in the middle of nowhere except for a major highway near by.
As we sat on the deck having a glass of local white wine

We watched the number of trucks going by! In two minutes Norm counted 50 semi trailers!

On Sunday when we were on the bus from Prague to Ljubljana for 9 hours, we saw hundreds of truck at a truck stop. We couldn’t understand why so many were just parked? Well we found out today that truckers are not allowed on the roads on Sunday and once May is here, they aren’t allowed Saturday and Sunday! There are too many cars traveling south for holiday that the roads would be too congested. What a smart idea!

The view of trucks and the mountains.
Our room for the night is lovely, and an extra bed.

Dinner was included because there is really no where for us to go and find food. We were the only guests

First asparagus soup

Second course, veal with a bread stuffing, potatoes, zucchini and carrots
Dessert was a traditional Slovenian dish a pastry stuffed with cottage cheese and tarragon and maybe an orange glaze?
