Ljubljana means Beloved

Unlike most hotels that include breakfast with a smorgasbord setup, our BnB asks each guest to order food they would like from items offered. Great idea and less waste. Not easy to “borrow” food for later snacks though. I’m preparing now for breakfast tomorrow….
The Slamic BnB is very clean, attractive and a nice place. Here is a lovely patio (in warm weather) to relax.

But today means dressing warmly for our tour of Ljubljana. First stop, Preseren Square. France Prešeren was a 19th century poet of Slovenia acclaimed as one of the greatest European Romantics.
Next the three bridges crossing the Ljubljanica river just for pedestrians.

Locks for love on this bridge?

And of course the Dragon Bridge now known as a symbol and protector of Ljubljana.

We took the free tour of Ljubljana and learned lots of the history. Here is one of the Catholic Cathedral’s doors telling Slovene history. Tour guide giving information.

We checked the university library to a stairway of black marble columns by the famous architect, Jože Plečnik. He also designed the Three Bridges, the Shoemaker bridge and many other structures in Ljubljana and around the world.

This is the door handle to this building!

Tour over and we are really cold. Our friend Christian who worked in Ljubljana for three years suggested Le Petit Cafe, near the university. It was absolutely delicious, the best croque madame ever and Norm had Florentine eggs. We were totally pleased with the meal. Getting warm helped too

And of course tea and a latte

Next the castle on the hill, Ljubljana castle was once a medieval fortress first built in the 11th century. First the walk up

A long way up

And a rest after hiking up

And a view

Hello from Ljubljana

WOW

Yellow Bunny really bonded with the protective dragon

And now our final meal in Ljubljana before we start our hike tomorrow. It is a beautiful city, so much open space for people not cars, the Baroque buildings, the bridges, the river, the many dragons, the markets and shops.

Now all we need is sunshine for the resumption of hiking south through Slovenia after a two-day break in this lovely city.
