Dried fruits, cheese, homemade bread and jams, sliced meats??
Not sure what kind of sliced meats we were served…
And the server came by and offered eggs
Off we headed with a short ride to our starting spot. Again we are walking the Compostela, scallop shell
And it was raining!!
Lovely trails through woods. Lots of large boulders of limestone that obviously came from Mt Nanos at some point.
We took the path below the mountain which was less steep.
Great views of the valley except for the clouds.
Along the way we were amazed to see wild peonies growing along the trail. Beautiful
And it kept raining!
More valley views
Wet stop for lunch
A communist memorial on the trail
Yellow Bunny hiding in the rocks
Almost to our hotel but still a few km in the rain
In the middle of nowhere is St Nikolai church, built in the 17th century and renovated in 1991-93.
Set against Mt Nanos
So glad I brought a walking stick. With the rain the rocks which are everywhere are slippery. No serious fall! And we saw many rock slides probably from the some time ago…. I hope
Finally Vipava and our accommodation. But first.. a schnapps to warm Norm up, me, tea ahhhhhh
Our room
Living room and there is a kitchen
After warming up and having a wee nap we were directed to the restaurant just near by. Probably one of the classiest dinners we’ve had!
It started with asparagus and cheese lollipop
Next was a charcuterie, one of the meats was horse
Bread dumpling with egg yolk and smoked sour cream?
And then gnocchi with bear goulash!!and pomegranate
And a glass of bubbly local wine! Amazing meal! Felt great after the walk.
