To Den Haag today

Leaving Victoria at 2:15 on Monday, we arrived in Amsterdam 12:40 on Tuesday. With 10 hours flying and only 1 hour sleeping, we were a little tired but managed to stay awake till 8 pm and then slept 11 hours. Today we felt pretty good. Coming downstairs this morning we were greeted with a perfect breakfast.
You noticed that Yellow Bunny was please. She is a fan of muesli.
Dineke and Kess laughing at Norm's ginger cake with honey and sprinkles.
It's a Dutch thing.
Today's adventure started with biking to the train station. First we stored our bikes along with a thousand other ones and hoped we could find ours 12 hours later.
We took the train to Utrecht and on to Den Hague. First stop coffee and Cafe Dudok where Norm and I were lucky enough to get our picture taken with Queen Beatrix. Wow eh!

Off we went to see the sights. We walked through the parliament area built in the 1600's.
This the hall where the parliament and king meet to discuss things.
Every government building needs a golden fountain.
The binnenhof, a courtyard, for people to gather. Off we went to find a place for our lunch we had packed and were greeted by a Canadian, well a Canadian goose. They are everywhere!

Next stop the Peace Palace. Built in 1913 with money donated from Andrew Carnegie.
This tree had words of peace in every language.
Time for a drink after all the walking we did. This is the Goude Hooft, Golden Head, If you look closely you can see it at the very top.
Now refreshed with went to the Mauritishuis Museum to see real works of art.
Yellow Bunny checked out this self portrait of Rembrandt.
This Vermeer is one of most beautiful paintings at the art gallery.
With some time to waste before dinner, we all went exploring. Norm and I ended up in Albert Heijn, grocery store after visiting some high end clothing stores, De Bijenkorf, and Marks and Spencer. We were imporessed with the ability to buy 3 eggs or 7. Who knew and no refrigeration.
We ended the evening in The Hague at a very classy restaurant, Humphrey.
The meal was delicious and the desserts, the best.

Once we finished dinner we then had to repeat the train ride back to Nijimegan and bike home, It was dark, 10:30 by the time we got back. Quite the day! An excellent adventure to start our holiday. We then slept 9 hours and are feeling normal now.

  2. Nice-looking weather! Sunshine for you while we have rain and cloudy skies here in Victoria... Next time you're in the grocery store, see if you can find me any gluten-free stroopwafels. They exist and I would love some but I only saw them in one store last time I was there.

  3. You look good, hanging out with royalty. Now I have something to get out of bed for, in the morning.
