Day Two Hike - Allihies to Eyeries

We said goodbye to Allihies after a wonderful breakfast. But first .....Norm suggested a bonus walk. We headed to the ocean to explore the rugged coast line. A great idea but the rain and wind were fairly intense. But the views were worth it.
You can see we bundled up to try and stay dry.
The craggy rocks along the edge with crashing waves definitely are not for the average fishing boat.
. Looking back at Allihies , we headed into the mountains and clouds again.
Lots of stiles to go up and over. Heather showing the way.
And sheep everywhere. Sometimes you can see them scratching their backsides on a rock or bush.
More signs. We are taking the Beara Way.
Here is the old copper mine power house. Oppression was mined here starting in the 1840s up to 1962.
Lots of up hills and some mining tunnels.

You have to pay attention to where you are going. Always looking for the yellow man.
And the pathway is very wet, boggy and muddy.
Today's trails were often on hillsides so you were walking sort of sideways.
The scenery was stunning when you could see through the fog.
 A mossy waterfall.
 Lots of green.
Norm shared his orange with Yellow Bunny.
As we got close to Eyeries we got off the mountain and walked though some fields and into town to our next BnB for the night. Ahhhhhhh

We got a ride to the cafe for dinner which is the best way to end a day of hiking! Yummy fish and chips for me and even room for dessert.

Our hosts at Formanes House BnB are Bat and Rosarie O'Neill. Bat was trying to help me with learning about my O'Neill relatives. Who knows, maybe we are related too. I'll have to work on my ancestry. But even more impressive was Rosarie irioning the sheets and pillow cases. She said she just couldn't have her guest sleep in wrinkled bedsheets. (She called the machine a presser) I don't think I know anyone in Victoria who would iron bedding.....

  1. Do you see any other walkers on your travels? How far are your daily rambles? Hope sunnier skies are on their way to you.
