Odessa was suppose to nap but since that wasn’t working we decided to take her for a walk, guaranteed to make her fall asleep. Do we look in charge?
She loved being out in the fresh air but still it took a half hour for her to fall asleep and that only lasted 30 minutes. Once home we played, fed her applesauce and read stories which she prefers to eat.
Now time for her nap and the return of Lauraine and Duncan and time for us to check out the city. We caught the train to Central station. It is amazing how busy the streets are for a pandemic year. So many tourists!
Many lined up for frites. This one is called Mannekenpis. It refers to a fountain in Belgian of a little boy peeing. Can you see it above the customers?
We went further to get authentic Belgian/style frites with mayo. Fewer people lined up and the fries tasted great. They have been making frites since 1957.
We passed people (tourists) feeding pigeons sometimes on their heads! Dam Square.
One touristy section along the Singel canal is a whole block of flower vendors. Not a lot of fresh blooms these days but there so many bulbs and peonies and more for sale.
I’m not sure how they make money. There must have been 15 stores selling the same thing.
Yellow bunny had a nice sleep with Odessa while we were out today.
Tomorrow maybe windmills- the old fashioned kind.

Time to head back to Koog aan de Zaan. Got on the train then had to ask someone to explain the Dutch train announcement. Turns out the train can’t get to our stop, some problems on the tracks.
So we catch a train to Zaandam. Not too far away and we walk home. 40 minutes later we made it. I think we did about 10 km today, adding up baby’s walk and our Friday afternoon stroll in Amsterdam, plus the unplanned walk home from Z to K.
But always fun to find yourself somewhere that you hadn’t planned. Check this lovely street lights strung across the road in Zaandam.

Mary and Norman - I am exhausted just reading about your day. I would have been finished at ‘applesauce’.❤️
ReplyDeleteI am surprised at the number of tourists. Any idea where they are all from?
ReplyDeleteI remember all those flower bulb shops in Amsterdam in 2018 when I was there! Yes, I'm exhausted just reading too. Neat photos. You look like you're "in charge" - and having fun. (Ev)
