Welcome to Nürnberg (or Nurenburg or Nuremberg)

We left the AaRa Hotel this morning in Radeberg to Dresden to catch the bus to Nürnberg. The bus ride is a five and a half hour trip. Some of the sites along the way, mostly beautiful green (and yellow) countryside of fields of hay fields and canola.
The occasional unique chimney, this is Chemnitz (I don't think it means "chimney town"). It was a major industrial centre in the old East Germany and still is a busy place, now dubbed Stadt Moderne, or modern city. We didn't see many historic buildings on our bus ride in and out; actually felt a bit like Surrey.
And many trucks at one of our pit stops. This was only half an hour from our destination but I guess the driver had to have dinner, and there was a Burger King here.
Driving into Nürnberg on the autobahn was slowed with much traffic, weekend travellers heading home. It's been a four-day weekend for some Germans. Most of the trip from Dresden was at a fast clip on the six-lane highway, and yes, drivers in the fast lane we
re going really fast.
But Yellow Bunny enjoyed the bus ride.
Our new accommodation for the next two days is better than we expected...a two poster bed with half a canopy and those lovely firm German mattresses, sitting area, 24 channels of  German TV. Best of all, a bathtub. It's only the second time to bathe in a real tub in three weeks! The room is tucked up under the eaves on the fifth floor, or fourth as they count in German buildings.

The hotel, Burghotel Stammhaus, is quite cozy, gemütlich they say here. The elevator requires dexterity with two people and backpacks, and the plaque says limited to four people. That would be a squeeze. Norm tried to take a selfie.....
Still light outside so off we went to explore. The Kaiser Castle is right near our hotel. What a site, massive walls to protect them and such a view of Nürnberg.

The city is still walled in some spots. In the centre platz, Haupt markt, you see the Frauenkirche, the Church of our Lady. Every day at noon the ornamental clock on the facade of the church tells time. We shall see today exactly what happens, stay tuned.

A quick snack of crepes and back to our hotel where gummy bears were waiting on our pillows.
