Hanalei Market

We started our day with an early morning walk around Poi Pu, a chance to see whales maybe. Heather pointed to the spout spray but the whales were too far out to really see.

The sun was trying to get through. Whales or not it was a great way to start our day. We headed to the Grand Hyatt Hotel which was definitely over the top. They have amazing gardens, pools and an open outdoor lobby. Norm had to have his morning coffee of course.

On our walk home I had to take a picture of this Rainbow Eucalypus tree. The peeling bark gives a three dimensional look of cool colours.

Back home for a quick breakfast before we headed north to the town of Hanalei, home of Puff the Magic Dragon (didn't see any sign of him). Norm and I drove the main and only highway along the coast line to catch the morning market in Hanalei. We had a stop in Kapa'a, a historical town, for a coffee/tea break. And just before arriving in Hanalei we checked the taro fields.

Here is a close up picture of what a taro plant looks like. Norm had a taro burger today, interesting!

As we headed into Hanalei it was almost noon. We parked heading to the market to be informed that it closes at 12:00. We had all of 5 minutes to look at the vendors. Time enough for Norm to purchase a fresh pineapple and Hawaiian orange, very red in colour. We found the Hanalei beach and walked about the town.
One of the surprising things we found in Hanalei was this cafe. It seemed just the right place to take a photo of Norman. And Yellow Bunny was impressed too in the waterlillies there.

All the beaches in Hawaii are so perfect. The best though was where we stopped on the way home for a swim, Anini Beach.
I swam while Norm relaxed in the shade. The water was warm, no big waves, almost no people and soft sand. Perfect!
